FAROE ISLANDS PRIVATE PHOTOGRAPHY TOURS
Private day & multi-day photography experiences built around you
Private · Flexible Dates · Tailored to Your Photography
Already planning a trip to the Faroe Islands?
Join me for a private photography experience built around your dates, the landscapes you want to photograph and, most importantly, the conditions we actually have.
From a single full day to several days exploring the islands, I'll use my local knowledge to put us in the best photographic conditions I can.
No large group.
No rigid sightseeing timetable.
Just the time and flexibility to photograph the Faroe Islands properly.
Your local guide
Born in the North East of Scotland, I now live full time in the Faroe Islands, a landscape I proudly call home. Having spent countless hours exploring its dramatic scenery, I’ve developed a deep connection to the land. This allows me to tailor your experience perfectly to your needs, ensuring you capture the very best of what the Faroe Islands has to offer.
Select your destinations
My private photo tours are entirely personalised, allowing you to capture unique locations that group tours often overlook.
Your exclusive experience
These photography days are all about you—no other photographers, just your personalised itinerary, with the flexibility to adjust as needed.
YOUR FAROE ISLANDS. YOUR PHOTOGRAPHY DAY.
Private photography tours are exactly that:
Private.
It's just you — or your own small group — and me.
That means we can shape the day around what interests you.
Maybe you want to photograph some of the iconic Faroese landscapes you've seen for years.
Maybe you'd rather explore quieter locations away from the usual viewpoints.
Perhaps you love waterfalls, dramatic coastlines, villages, telephoto landscapes or long exposures.
Or maybe you simply want me to watch the weather and take you wherever I think the photography looks most promising.
That's usually my favourite option.
PRIVATE DAY PHOTOGRAPHY TOUR
A full day gives us enough time to properly explore one or more areas of the islands without racing between locations.
We'll build the day around the weather, light and what you want from the experience.
There isn't a strict clock watching over us.
If the photography is good, we'll keep photographing.
If you've had enough, we'll finish.
The aim isn't to squeeze as many locations as possible into nine hours.
It's to come away with photographs you're genuinely happy with.
Full Day — 3,500 DKK
-
No.
You can be relatively new to photography or have years of experience.
I'll simply adapt how much guidance I give you.
-
No.
We'll discuss the places you're interested in, but I normally finalise the plan close to your tour date when I have a better idea of the weather and light.
The itinerary can also change during the day.
-
Think of it as a full photography day rather than a rigidly timed tour.
Some days naturally finish earlier because the weather or light has run its course.
Other days may continue longer if we're getting good conditions.
I'm much more interested in the quality of the photography than watching the clock.
-
Absolutely.
Tell me what's on your wish list and I'll use it when planning the day.
But I'll also be honest if I think the weather, available time, ferry schedules or your fitness make something unrealistic.
Sometimes the best decision is to save a location for another day and photograph somewhere better suited to the conditions we have.
WE FOLLOW THE LIGHT, NOT A CHECKLIST
The Faroe Islands are not a place where rigid itineraries work particularly well.
You can wake up to sunshine in Tórshavn while Vágar is completely hidden beneath cloud.
An hour later, everything can reverse.
That's why I normally decide the finer details of our day close to the date — often around 24 hours beforehand — when I have a much better idea of the weather, wind and light.
Even then, the plan can change.
If we're driving towards one location and I see better conditions developing somewhere else, we can turn around.
If the light is working where we are, we don't need to rush away simply because another location was written on a list.
Quality over quantity. Always.
ONE DAY OR SEVERAL DAYS
MULTI-DAY PRIVATE PHOTOGRAPHY TOUR
If you have two, three or more days available, the experience becomes much more flexible.
We can explore different islands, react to changing weather and spend more time in locations rather than trying to fit everything into a single day.
It also gives us something extremely valuable in the Faroes:
another chance.
If Vágar is covered in fog one day, we can photograph somewhere else and return when conditions improve.
Multi-day trips are particularly good if photography is one of the main reasons you're visiting the Faroe Islands.
Multi-day trips are priced according to the number of days and your requirements.
PHOTOGRAPHY SUPPORT WHEN YOU WANT IT
Most photographers who book with me already know how to use their camera.
I'm not going to spend the day standing over your shoulder explaining aperture and shutter speed unless that's genuinely what you want help with.
Instead, I'm there as another photographer.
I can help you read difficult light, work with rain and mist, find compositions, choose lenses, approach long exposures or simply offer another opinion when you're not sure whether something is working.
And if you've found a composition and want to quietly work on it for the next hour?
I'll leave you to it.
You decide how much photography support you want.
PHOTOGRAPHING THE WEATHER
If you're travelling to the Faroe Islands, there's a fair chance we'll get wet.
That's not necessarily a problem.
Some of my favourite conditions happen when rain is moving through the landscape, cloud is wrapping around mountains or a patch of sunlight suddenly breaks underneath dark weather.
I'll help you work with those conditions rather than waiting for them to disappear.
Sometimes that means long exposures.
Sometimes it means reaching for a telephoto lens.
Sometimes it means putting the camera back in the bag for ten minutes and waiting.
The weather is part of photographing the Faroes.
WHERE COULD WE GO?
Depending on your available time, fitness, weather, access and ferry schedules, locations might include:
Mykines · Gásadalur · Múlafossur · Tindhólmur · Drangarnir · Bøur · Bøsdalafossur · Sørvágsvatn · Trælanípa · Trøllkonufingur · Kalsoy · Kallur Lighthouse · Norðradalur · Leynasandur · Funningur · Fossá · Eiði · Saksun · Tjørnuvík · Gjógv · Suðuroy
And plenty of places that aren't famous at all.
I don't promise a fixed number of locations.
We'll choose places that give us the best balance of conditions, accessibility and photography.
BUILT AROUND YOU
Not everybody wants the same photography experience.
You might be happy walking several kilometres over rough terrain.
You might prefer locations that are accessible almost directly from the car.
You may want a full day of landscape photography.
Or perhaps you're travelling with a partner and want a more relaxed combination of photography and exploring the islands.
Tell me what you're comfortable with.
I'll build the experience around your fitness, interests and photography, while always keeping weather and safety in mind.
WHO ARE PRIVATE PHOTOGRAPHY TOURS FOR?
These trips work particularly well if:
You're already visiting the Faroe Islands and want to dedicate part of your trip to photography.
You don't want to join a group workshop.
You have specific locations or photographs in mind.
You want flexibility around your own travel dates.
You'd like local knowledge without being rushed around on a standard sightseeing tour.
You want photography advice available, but don't need constant tuition.
You want to work at your own pace.
Beginners are absolutely welcome too.
The advantage of a private trip is that the experience can adapt to you.
WHAT'S INCLUDED?
Your private photography tour includes:
Private photography guiding
Transport during the photography tour
Photography guidance whenever you want it
Planning around weather and light
Road tunnel fees
My local knowledge of the Faroe Islands
Where an itinerary involves additional ferries, hiking/access fees or special transport, I'll discuss those with you before confirming the trip.
PRIVATE PHOTOGRAPHY TOUR FAQs
-
We adapt.
Bad weather doesn't always mean bad photography.
Rain, fog and dramatic skies can produce fantastic conditions.
If a particular part of the islands looks poor, we may simply go somewhere else.
If conditions become unsafe, safety always comes first.
-
Of course.
If you want help with settings, composition, filters, long exposures or working with difficult light, I'm there.
If you don't need help, I won't constantly interrupt you.
-
That depends entirely on the locations we choose.
Some wonderful photography locations require very little walking.
Others involve longer hikes over uneven, wet and sometimes steep terrain.
Tell me honestly what you're comfortable with and I'll plan accordingly.
-
Yes.
Private tours can work very well for couples where only one person is primarily interested in photography.
Let me know when you enquire and we can plan the experience accordingly.
